Timeframe
October 2021 to December 2024
The Africa Climate Action Partnership (AfCAP) Livestock Community of Practice aims to support stakeholders in the livestock sector to meet their national livestock development priorities, in a changing climate.
AfCAP brings together government, civil society and the private sector to advance low emissions strategies across Africa.
With a membership of 39 African countries, AfCAP promotes low-carbon, climate-resilient development, knowledge exchange and capacity development to support poverty alleviation, job creation and environmental management in Africa.
With financial support from the New Zealand government, AfCAP is enhancing the inclusion of livestock measures in Nationally Determined Contributions and long-term strategies of African countries.
Project Status (February 2024)
AfCAP hosted its’ first Technical Support Peer Exchange Visit (20-21 November 2023) in Salima, Malawi. This supported Malawi in developing and improving their livestock Tier 2 agricultural greenhouse gas inventory, raised awareness of livestock greenhouse gas emissions, and raised awareness of incorporating livestock greenhouse gas monitoring, reporting, verification and mitigation options into their National Climate policies and implementation plans.

“This workshop was an extremely useful opportunity to raise awareness and increase understanding around issues related to GHG emissions in the livestock sector. These opportunities are extremely important. They help ensure that lower-levels or less senior officials can be reached for further penetration on capacity strengthening.”
