Timeframe
November 2021 to April 2023

Agriculture plays a key role in Botswana’s economy.
It is the main source of livelihood in its rural areas.

Agriculture accounts for the livelihoods of 80% of the country’s population but only six percent of Lesotho’s Gross Domestic Product. Lesotho’s Nationally Determined contributions 2017 commits to reducing emissions by 10% by 2030, or by an additional 25% with external support.

Lesotho’s plan to mitigate and adapt to effects of climate change includes adoption of climate smart agricultural practices for greater food security and higher farmer income. Action on livestock emissions requires that Zambia uses a more advanced and accurate method to quantify GHG emissions.

The project was implemented as a pilot of regional inventory support for 4 countries Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Mozambique. It was completed on time in April 2023 and all objectives were met.
