New Project Under the NZCSA Initiative in Latin America

11 November 2024

The New Zealand Government and the U.S Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), recently signed an agreement with the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) that funds efforts to strengthen understanding of national agricultural greenhouse gases across Latin American agrifood systems. This investment of NZD $1 million under New Zealand’s Climate Smart Agriculture (NZCSA) Initiative, is part of New Zealand’s contribution to the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA). It supports New Zealand’s priority objective of promoting international consistency in agricultural greenhouse gas reporting.

The project invests in identifying the needs of, and building capability to support, Latin American countries to establish more accurate methods for emissions reporting. It is led by CIAT and co-funded by the New Zealand Government and the USEPA. The New Zealand Agricultural Greenhouse Gas Research Centre (NZAGRC) will provide technical support.
